MY ‘COUNTRY’

Sicilì - The region of Sicily is situated on the green hill of Mount Mamino, not even 200 metres away
from the valley of the river Bussento.
Due to its geographic position, the autonomous region enjoys a mild climate, that assures fertility to its fields
and thus induces the visitor to wonder longer in the little square, situated in the centre of the country.
From this little square all other streets are splitting out; even nowadays you’ll discover that most of them
are still made of ancient stone.

Even though we have little information about the origins of Sicilì, it is proven that Sicilì should have been an important habitated centre, ever since the 16thcentury, when we know that it became a baronial
establishment for the family De Stefano, who reigned the fief until the beginning of the 800.
Due to this noble family, it has been possible to build in the 16th century the church ‘Chiesa dell’Annunziata’,
which the tradition says that has been raised on the remaining of an antique Greek-Italian
newsstand, dedicated to Saint Teodoro.

A Sicilì where other than producing a very good quality of extra virgin olive oil, it is still practiced the raising
of the pigs and sheep, as well as the cultivation of the white fig tree of Cilento,
the later known since the year 3000 B.C. in Babylon and which was empowered with magical aspects by
the Mediterranean culture, embedded in its quality.
It is a product specific to this region and typical for Cilento, requires a traditional cultivation and production,
which are maintained over time.
The white fig of Cilento has been proposed by the European Union as one of the PDO
products ( Protected Designation of Origin).
It is a fruit of sweet taste, with chestnut brown-light yellow coloured peel.
Is definitely an elegant and appreciated course, due to its numerous uses and high calorie content.
It is to be eaten fresh, during the season ( summer-autumn); becomes a delicious course of dried and sweet fruit
when it gets dried out and filled with almonds or covered in chocolate.

In the province of Salerno it is very diffused the cultivation of the fig: the region of Cilento, with its white fig,
provides approximately 100.00 kilos of exsiccated product made in the local agricultural factories.

The fig is cultivated in the warm sunny lands of Cilento and it is distinguished by its quality,
taste and high calorie content.
